About the Course

El Dorado Search and Rescue in cooperation with ResQFast and Marin SAR will together present the first Large Animal Rescue track at an MRA Conference. The first part of the course in the classroom will discuss what Animal Technical Rescue teams look like, what they do and what they need. We will discuss the special considerations and circumstances involved in a Large Animal Rescue, including the involvement of Veterinarians, rope placement and equipment requirements. The team will also will review safety zones, movement around large animals, and understanding safe approaches to large animals who may be stuck, injured or scared. After the classroom presentation, the group will head outside to the steep hills nearby to train together and execute large animal rescue scenarios out in the field. Instructors will discuss approaches to the stressed animal, anchors, and rope systems management considerations in Large Animal Rescue. Lastly, there will be a discussion around how ATR teams function within an integrated command system and the special teamwork and skills required to rescue a large animal.
